For anyone who hasn’t heard, Rosemont Bakery is planning on opening a produce shop on Commercial St. next door to Benkay Sushi. I’ve always loved Rosemont, but wished there was one closer to me, so now I’m hoping to be able to pick up the majority of my produce (ideally, the majority of my groceries) right downtown.
There’s a great article in the Press Herald where owner John Naylor mentions “It’s going to be pretty, but no bells and whistles,” in reference to the fact that the store will not have any fancy displays or grocery bags to help keep costs low. I think this is going to be a great addition to the downtown scene in Portland and hopefully a regular destination for me. It’s also great that its right next to the only credit union on the Peninsula and across the street from Bay Lines so there’s easy access for anyone who lives on the islands.
The new storefront is slated to open sometime in late February or March.
